Team Penske
Get to Know the Team
Team Penske has been racing in the United States since 1966, scoring victories in every series it has competed in. It is the most successful INDYCAR SERIES team in history with 244 race wins, 17 national championships and 305 pole positions. Roger Penske was one of America’s most successful young road racers before retiring from driving in 1965 to focus on his business interests. The team initially fielded Corvettes in the 1966 endurance sports car races at Daytona and Sebring before partnering with driver Mark Donohue to race in the U.S. Road Racing Championship and Can-Am sports car series, winning consecutive USRRC championships and three SCCA Trans-Am championships.
Penske and Donohue moved into INDYCAR SERIES racing by competing in three USAC-sanctioned road races in 1968. In 1969, the team entered the Indianapolis 500 for the first time, and Donohue finished seventh, earning Rookie of the Year honors. Three years later, he earned the first of 20 Indy 500 victories for Penske – more than any other team – including four from Rick Mears and three from Helio Castroneves.
In 2026, Team Penske will compete with a three-car lineup featuring two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden, 2021 NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year Scott McLaughlin, and newcomer David Malukas.
Team Penske also competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and with Porsche Penske Motorsport campaigns for a pair of Porsche 963 prototypes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series and World Endurance Championship. Over its 58-year history, the team has earned more than 630 wins, nearly 700 poles, over 6,000 starts and 47 national championships across all racing series. Its record includes 20 Indianapolis 500 victories, three Daytona 500 wins, a Formula One win, overall victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, and a win at Australia’s legendary Bathurst 1000.
