INDY NXT by Firestone race winner Josh Pierson will make his NTT INDYCAR SERIES debut in 2027 after signing a multiyear agreement with AJ Foyt Racing, team officials announced Tuesday.

Pierson joins the team’s two-car lineup alongside 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year Dennis Hauger. Pierson will drive the No. 4 Chevrolet, with a new sponsor to be announced at a later date. Hauger was confirmed Sept. 16 as the driver of the No. 14 Chevrolet, which will carry sponsorship from Homes For Our Troops.

“Racing in INDYCAR has been my dream for as long as I can remember,” Pierson said. “The variety of racing I’ve done has all been in preparation for this incredible opportunity. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way and tremendously appreciative of the commitment of a new partner that will be announced shortly.”

Pierson brings a diverse résumé to AJ Foyt Racing, with experience spanning karting, junior formula cars and international sports car competition. At 16, Pierson became the youngest driver to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Pierson has since recorded race wins and podium finishes in the FIA World Endurance Championship, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA before returning to open-wheel racing in INDY NXT by Firestone.

The 20-year-old native of Portland, Oregon, made his INDY NXT debut in 2023, with his strongest championship result coming in 2025 with HMD Motorsports. He recorded two podium finishes and 11 top-10 results that season to finish sixth in the standings.

Pierson placed 11th in 2026, his first season with Andretti Global, while earning his first career victory in the INDYCAR development series by leading every lap from the pole at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Pierson’s first pole last season came in late August at the Milwaukee Mile, where he set the two-lap average qualifying record.

The victory and poles capped a season with momentum, as Pierson also led the most laps and started on the front row in each of the last three races of the season.

That late-season surge followed a series of evaluations with AJ Foyt Racing, which tested Pierson (photo, above) multiple times over the past year. The sessions included testing the team’s Chevrolet-powered car on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

“I’ve been watching Josh closely for the past several seasons, AJ Foyt Racing President Larry Foyt said. “Few drivers at his age have his depth of experience, and his maturity and work ethic are remarkable. I believe in Josh, and we’re excited to be part of his continued development.”

Pierson joins AJ Foyt Racing ahead of a milestone season for the organization. The 2027 campaign marks the 50th anniversary of A.J. Foyt’s fourth Indianapolis 500 victory, which came in 1977. Foyt was the first among four drivers to win the Indy 500 four times. Al Unser, Rick Mears and Helio Castroneves later joined Foyt in the prestigious four-win club.

“Being a part of AJ Foyt Racing, a team with incredible history, means the world to me,” Pierson said. “I’m excited about what Larry and the entire team are building for the future. I’m grateful for their confidence in me and look forward to my first NTT INDYCAR SERIES green flag at St. Pete.”

The 2027 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season starts Sunday, March 7 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
