FORT WORTH, Texas – Will Power survived a wild night of racing at Texas Motor Speedway, winning the Rainguard Water Sealers 600 in a race that ended under caution.

The victory is the 31st Indy car win in the Team Penske driver’s career, tying him with Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy for ninth all time.

Tony Kanaan finished second in the 248-lap race that saw 66 laps run under caution due to numerous on-track incidents. The primary incident came on Lap 152, triggered when the cars of Kanaan and James Hinchcliffe touched entering Turn 3. Hinchcliffe’s car veered into the SAFER Barrier and a total of nine cars were collected in the incident.

Power, driving the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, led a race-high 180 laps and made what wound up being the decisive pass for the lead on Lap 243 when he edged in front of Scott Dixon in the No. 9 NTT Data Honda.

On the next lap, Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato attempted an inside pass of Dixon for second place on the dogleg heading into Turn 1 but his No. 26 Andretti Autosport Honda clipped the grass and spun, collecting Dixon, Conor Daly and Max Chilton.

It brought out the final caution of the evening, allowing Power to cruise to his second victory of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season.

Only nine cars from the original 22-car field were running at the end of the race. Following Power and Kanaan in the finishing order were Simon Pagenaud, Graham Rahal, Gabby Chaves and Marco Andretti on the lead lap.

Dixon finished ninth but retained the unofficial championship lead after nine of 17 races with 326 points. Pagenaud is second with 313, Sato third with 312, Helio Castroneves fourth with 303 and Power fifth at 286.

The next Verizon IndyCar Series race is the KOHLER Grand Prix at Road America on June 25. The race airs live at 12:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN and the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network.
