Verizon IndyCar Series drivers are used to strutting their stuff on the racetrack. The families for several drivers will take their turn in the spotlight Tuesday for a good cause.

The wives and children will be guests of honor for a luncheon/fashion show at Tilly’s Tea Room inside Saks Fifth Avenue in Indianapolis to benefit the Indy Family Foundation.

The drivers’ children – as well as children of others who work in the paddock at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – will model spring and summer fashion from Saks’ new children’s department. Adult guests will enjoy a wine lunch and children will be served Indy car-shaped apple slices and hotdogs with cherry tomato “wheels” attached to their buns with toothpicks.

The afternoon of racing and fashion benefits the Indy Family Foundation, which assists those working in motorsports faced with financial hardships caused by illness, injury or death. The assistance is available to drivers, crew members, course workers, support and administrative personnel, team owners and family members in all forms of racing.

The idea for the stylish luncheon came from Tilly’s Tea Room owner Sharon Moore and Erin Shepard-Sanders, Saks’ assistant general manager of operations.

“We wanted to come up with a way to promote the Indy 500, give back to the racing community and tie it in with Saks’ new kids’ department,” said Moore.

Verizon IndyCar Series team owner/driver Ed Carpenter’s three children – Makenna, 12, Ryder, 8, and Cruz, 5 – are modeling. Carpenter’s wife, Heather, will also be at the luncheon.

“It should be a fun afternoon for everybody with all the kids dressed up,” she said. “All the money from the ticket sales goes to Indy Family Foundation and there’s no better way to highlight the work the foundation does than with this family-friendly event.”

The event begins at 11 a.m. ET Tuesday at Tilly’s Tea Room on the third floor of Saks Fifth Avenue, 8701 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis. Tickets are $50 for adults and $10 for children. To purchase tickets, click here.
